PRS is a new government link initiative that is designed to complement and supplement the existing mandatory schemes offered by the Employees Provident fund (EPF). Private Retirement Scheme (PRS) forms an integral feature of the private pension industry with the objective of improving living standards for Malaysians at retirement through additional savings of funds.
The Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Mohd Najib has officially launched PRS on 18th July. The scheme, consisting of 24 funds managed by 8 providers, are to be made available from September 2012 onwards.
To date, 5 out of the 8 appointed PRS Providers such as CIMB Principal Asset Management Bhd, Public Mutual Berhad, Manulife Asset Management Services Bhd, Public Bank, RHB and Hwang Investment Management Bhd have successfully launched their PRS funds.
The launch of the funds signals that the public, both employer and individual employee can now actively contribute and enjoy additional tax benefits provided by the scheme.
